Possible complications

Complications, as with all surgeries, are rare, but can also occur here, such as asymmetric healing or mild numbness in the surgical area, but this is usually only temporary. The scars are located behind the ear, making them virtually invisible. Sutures can inflammate, but this is also very rare.

During the consultation, the surgeon asks the patient if they have already had an inflammation, a puncture in their ear, or if they have had other ear surgery. It also asks what medications you are currently taking, what bothers you best about your ears, and what you want to achieve with the surgery.

Before surgery

Before ear surgery, you should avoid taking aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs that can increase bleeding. Smoking narrows blood vessels, thereby slowing down the healing process, so your doctor recommends that you stop smoking for weeks before and after surgery. After surgery, it is recommended that someone take the patient home by car.

Ear surgery is performed under local anesthesia, the technique used during the surgery and the location of the incisions depend on the purpose of the operation, so the doctor can make an incision behind and inside the ear.

At the incisions, the doctor removes excess cartilage and / or skin, folds the cartilage in place and secures it with internal sutures, and then sutures the incisions. The surgery took approx. it takes two hours.
